Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Midwifery

  • Midwifery care focuses on providing personalized, holistic support to women throughout their reproductive journey, including preconception, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Midwives emphasize the importance of building strong relationships with clients, offering continuous support during labor and birth, and promoting natural childbirth when desired. Unlike traditional obstetric care, which often involves interventions and medicalized approaches, midwifery care prioritizes the physiological process of childbirth and aims to empower women to make informed choices about their care.

  • Choosing midwifery care is a personal decision that depends on your preferences, values, and healthcare needs. If you value personalized, relationship-centered care and desire a more physiological approach to childbirth, midwifery care may be a great fit for you. During your first appointment with us, you can expect to discuss your medical history, current health status, and any specific concerns or preferences you have regarding your care. We'll take the time to get to know you, answer any questions you may have, and work together to create a care plan that aligns with your goals and values.

  • Midwives are skilled healthcare providers who offer personalized, holistic care to women throughout their reproductive journey. They provide comprehensive prenatal care, support during labor and birth, and postpartum care for both mother and baby. Midwifery care emphasizes building strong relationships, empowering women to make informed choices, and promoting natural childbirth whenever possible. Choosing midwifery care can offer you personalized support, continuity of care, and a focus on your individual needs and preferences.

  • Many insurance plans cover midwifery care, including prenatal, labor and birth, and postpartum services. However, coverage may vary depending on your insurance provider and plan. We recommend contacting your insurance company to verify coverage and benefits before scheduling your appointment. Additionally, we offer a variety of payment options, including self-pay and payment plans, to ensure our services are accessible to all women. If we are out of network most insurers will reimburse if claims are submitted appropriately - we have our own biller who will guide you through this process.

  • We believe in supporting women's choices and preferences regarding childbirth. Our midwives are trained to provide comprehensive support for natural childbirth, including labor support techniques, movement and positioning, hydrotherapy, and other non-pharmacological pain relief methods.

Preconception

  • Preconception counseling is a comprehensive evaluation and discussion of your health and lifestyle before becoming pregnant. It helps identify any potential risks or concerns that may affect your pregnancy and allows you to make informed decisions to optimize your health and prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Our preconception services include assessments of your medical history, lifestyle factors, and genetic considerations, as well as personalized recommendations for nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle changes to support your fertility and overall well-being.

  • We recommend scheduling a preconception appointment several months before you plan to conceive, ideally at least three to six months in advance. This allows time for any necessary interventions or lifestyle changes to optimize your health and fertility before becoming pregnant. However, even if you're already pregnant, it's never too late to seek preconception counseling to address any concerns and support a healthy pregnancy.

Well Woman

  • Well-woman care focuses on preventive health screenings, exams, and counseling to help you maintain optimal health and wellness throughout your life. Our well-woman services include regular check-ups, pelvic exams, breast exams, Pap smears, and screenings for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The frequency of these appointments may vary depending on your age, health status, and risk factors, but we generally recommend scheduling an annual well-woman exam to monitor your health and address any concerns.

  •  During your well-woman appointment, you can expect personalized, compassionate care in a comfortable and supportive environment. Your visit may include a comprehensive physical exam, screenings for common health conditions, discussions about your reproductive health, contraception options, and any concerns or questions you may have. Our goal is to provide you with the information and support you need to maintain your health and well-being at every stage of life.

Lactation Services

  • Our lactation services are designed to provide education, support, and assistance to breastfeeding mothers and their babies. Whether you're a first-time mother or have breastfeeding experience, our lactation consultants can help address common breastfeeding challenges, such as latch difficulties, low milk supply, engorgement, or nipple pain. We offer personalized guidance, hands-on support, and practical tips to help you achieve a successful breastfeeding relationship with your baby.

  • We recommend seeking lactation support as soon as possible if you're experiencing breastfeeding difficulties or concerns. Early intervention can help prevent or address issues before they escalate and support a positive breastfeeding experience for you and your baby. You can schedule a lactation consultation with one of our certified lactation consultants by contacting our office. We offer flexible appointment times and personalized support to meet your needs and goals.
